Winners

Colorado and Duke

These two teams had two of the bigger upsets from the weekend. Colorado and Duke were both unranked before this, and huge wins now got them into the top 25. Being the only two teams to make it after not being ranked, the week 1 win by both of these teams could prove huge for the season going on.

I could see both of these teams going bowling around the bowl season, and I am not sure if I would have said that before the week. These are two fun teams with two good young quarterbacks. I look forward to seeing what these two teams do over the next few weeks.

Florida State

Florida State had quite a rise in the AP poll, going from number 8 to number 4, and even got some first place votes. The way this team dominated LSU even with the mistakes was impressive. Mike Norvell did a good job coaching this game, and it showed for sure. After what happened to Clemson, FSU could have a real shot of not only winning the SEC, but maybe even making the CFP. I look forward to seeing more of this team to just see how legit they are.

Oregon State ( or DJ Uiagalelei)

For more than just the ranking, I think Oregon State should feel good about itself. One major reason is DJ Uiagalelei. DJ had a really impressive performance in this game, and also I am sure a lot of mental relief. A lot of Clemson’s issues were placed and blamed on Uiagalelei. With a new scenery and learning that maybe it all wasn’t Uiagalelei’s fault, I am curious to see how this Oregon State team goes.

Losers

Clemson

Clemson barely hangs on, but the Tigers are able to stay in the AP poll by coming in at 25. After a game in which Dabo said it was “the weirdest game I’ve ever been a part of,” the former 9th ranked Tigers lost to the Duke Blue Devils. By no way is Clemson’s season over, but they do have a tough hill to climb. Worst part too is Duke is a conference foe. Clemson will look to bounce back in the next two weeks versus weaker opponents.

LSU

LSU did not play very well on both sides of the ball week 1, and it shows in the AP poll. The Tigers dropped from the 5th spot to number 14. LSU seemed to get flustered a bit on offense, and defensively just made too many mistakes. I think they still have a chance to be good this year, but I am unsure of where this team could finish. You could tell me 8-4 or 10-2 and I would not be shocked, although I tend to lean more towards 8-4 now.

Iowa

Iowa won their game, but I am putting them here for one reason. The Hawkeyes were the only team to drop out of the top 25 after the new rankings. This team has Iowa State next week, and will need a big win to get back into the rankings. While a win alone could get it done, the more they win by the more cushion the Hawkeyes will have.
