ERRRRKKKK! Pump the breaks Kentucky Basketball has only played one game thus far this season! Early season over reactions are fun though, right?

However, they showed absolute dominance on the offensive side of the ball. Scoring at all levels, inside, outside, on the break, in the half court sets, you name it; they were scoring.

It showed from the tip as Kentucky’s first set was a beautiful array of screens leading to a wide open alley-oop lay-up.

Kentucky basketball put up 103 points on 39 field goals while shooting the ball 60% from the floor. From behind the three point line they shot the ball 45.8%.

Six players scored in double digits for the Wildcats with Otega Oweh leading the way with 21. Amari Williams dominated down low grabbing 13 boards to go along with his 12 points. Senior transfer from San Diego State Lamont Butler pitched in 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assist.

Kentucky Basketball

The stat that has me the most excited is the assist to turnover ratio. It is one of the most underrated stats in basketball. This stat shows how a team is not only sharing the basketball, it also shows that they are making smart decisions with the basketball in their hands.

Kentucky dished out 30 assist, yes 30, to only 7 turnovers the entire game. When you take this level of shooting and offensive execution and add in single digit turnovers, you get a winner.

Just to add to my early over reactions, right now I think Kentucky is the second best team in the nation behind the back to back champion UConn Huskies.

Great talent, great coaching, and experience will lead Kentucky basketball deep into March for the first time in a while.

In the words of coach Mark Pope, “It’s Kentucky magic. Nothing like it.”
