Baylor and Arkansas faced off on Saturday night in a marquee matchup. Arkansas playing their first real competition of the season after beating Lipscomb in their first game of the season.
Baylor coming off of a horrendous loss to Gonzaga on opening night, a 40+ point blunder. The Bears were looking to get back on track against Arkansas and manage to hold on to the bounce back win.
Baylor came out hot in the first half and went into halftime with a 9 point lead, 42-33. Arkansas struggled to score only shooting 25% from beyond the arc and 41.4% from the field.
Arkansas won the 2nd half by four, however the effort fell short as Baylor took home the victory, 72-67.
Baylor Holds Off Arkansas
It is rare to see a team lose the rebound and assist numbers and still win the game, yet that is what happened on Saturday night in Dallas. Arkansas out rebounded Baylor 37-32 and had one more assist than the Bears did on the night.
Boogie Fland and Adou Thiero were the only two Razorbacks to score double digits. Fland with 17 points and 7 assist, Thiero scored the game high with 24 points.
Baylor got it from all angles as 5 of the 8 players who got playing time scored in double digits. Norchad Omier had a double-double grabbing 12 rebounds to go with his 15 points. VJ Edgecombe nearly had a double-double with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Jeremy Roach scored 13 points, while Robert Wright the 3rd scored 10 points off the bench.
However the real hero in the game was Baylor’s defense, holding Arkansas to under 70 points and allowing the Bears to get the win.
Arkansas will take on Troy on 11/13 while Baylor will get ready to take on Sam Houston on the 12th.
