So far this week I am 2-1 and looking to keep it rolling. Here is what I got for the weekend. Check out the latest episodes of the JCPod and Captain By A Hook for my full breakdowns.
Odds are from Fanduel, BetMGM, or Draftkings
Saturday
Colorado +20.5
What I like about this bet is the number. 20 points is a lot for a team that has a lot of potential. People are talking about the roster turnover, but also forget to mention the old roster was 1-11. I am willing to get this pick wrong, but am going to take a chance on a number we could see Colorado not have again all season.
I also am taking Colorado +8.5 while I can for week 2 against Nebraska.
Ohio State -29.5
I loved this number at 30.5 and love it here even more. Indiana has had 27 straight losses to the Buckeyes. The Hoosiers have not won a game since 1988. Meanwhile, Ohio State will be playing two quarterbacks and looking to see who is the better amongst the two. I see Ohio State putting in on Indiana, and am curious to see which one of the Ohio State quarterbacks performs better
Purdue -3.5
I thought this number would be a bit bigger, so seeing a -3.5 was quite a shock to see for Purdue Week 1. This is Ryan Walters first game with Purdue, and its the first home game. I think Purdue is a bit better than some people think. I am going to lay the -3.5 and am looking for Purdue to cover a touchdown.
UMass Minutemen +35.5
They shocked me last week so I am on them this week. 35 points are a lot of points, and I like this dog to cover. I do not see Auburn scoring 50-60, but I can see UMass scoring 14. Since that’s the case, I’m going to ride the Minutemen this week.
Boise State +14.5
This is the most feel I have on a bet all day. I am not too sure how I feel about the Washingtons defense. Meanwhile, I do believe Boise State will be a bit improved over what they showed last year. Washington has the chance to blow out Boise State due to the offense, but the defense will have to get a few stops to do that. I do not believe they will, so give me the 14.5
North Texas Moneyline
While looking through the Saturday Week 1 slate, I was looking for a home dog to bark with, and this feels like the team. I am shocked Cal is favored, let alone favored by 6. I am going to take the chance and gonna ride the Mean Green +205
North Carolina -2.5
I am nervous about this game Ill admit. UNC has two wins in the last 9 matches with South Carolina, and the UNC defense is not too much improved from last year. The reason I am taking UNC Week 1 is because of Drake Maye. I like Drake Maye over Spencer Rattler, and will choose to ride the Maye merry go round and not the Rattler roller coaster
Texas Tech -14
Anytime Wyoming has played a decent QB as of late, it has not gone well. A lot of bettors and insiders I respect think this line should be anywhere from 17-20. In that case I will keep it simple, I like Tech to cover the 14.
Sunday
Northwestern-Rutgers under 39.5 (-110)
I’ll keep this breakdown simple. It is the Big Ten with two of the more bad teams in the conference. Northwestern failed to score more than 10 in the last four games of the year, and I did not see much upgrade this offseason. Rutgers, I have no clue but I do not see either team getting to 20. Lets get nasty and enjoy some under play in this game.
San Jose State +17.5
I am taking this bet because they covered last week against USC. While it was a much bigger number, I can see San Jose doing something similar again this week. Give me 17.5 points.
LSU -2.5
I think LSU and FSU will be a really close game. When it comes to this Week1 game, like both of these teams going into the season, it was hard to choose a side in this one. I am taking LSU in the hopes that Jayden Daniels has improved on his play from last year. LSU was so close to the SEC title game last season. This win could get their season off to a good start.
Parnell’s Nasty Boy Parlay of the Weekend
I am workshopping the name, but once a week I will give out a huge odds parlay I am taking. This week it is on BetMGM.
+949 (+1424 with 50% boost)
- Purdue moneyline (-185)
- Ohio State -30.5 (-110)
- Umass +35.5(-115)
- NW-Rutgers under 39.5 (-110)
I am 5-3 so far on the year. Lets keep that thang movin going into Week 1.
