The Indianapolis Colts have cut defensive back Kenny Moore, the team announced.
This comes after the two sides reportedly mutually agreed to seek a trade in mid-April. When a trade wasn’t found, Moore requested his release from the team, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Indianapolis will save just over $7 million against its 2026 salary cap by making this move to release Moore. However, the move was more in line with being linked to the veteran’s fit within defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo’s scheme rather than his cap hit, per Jeremy Fowler.
Moore, who joined the Colts in 2017 as an undrafted free agent , has spent his entire nine-year career with the team. He played in 14 games last season, recording 55 tackles, six passes defended, and one interception.
“(I) think very highly of Kenny – not only me personally but organizationally, and I know the city feels the same way,” Colts general manager Chris Ballard said in April, according to team writer JJ Stankevitz. “At the end of the day, talking to him, he just felt like it was time for a change. Nothing much more than that.”
Moore has posted 649 tackles and six forced fumbles in 132 career games. His 21 interceptions rank 11th in Colts franchise history.
As a Colts fan myself, this news hurt to read and type. Kenny was a huge part of the culture and community of the Colts, so that will be a hard thing to replace.
