The Houston Texans have agreed to a three-year, $150-million contract extension with star edge rusher Will Anderson, according to Ian Rapoport.

The deal, according to reports, includes $134 million guaranteed and now officially makes Anderson the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. The extension also contains a rare no-trade clause. Anderson was a big factor of a stout Texans’ defense that allowed the fewest yards per game (279) and second-fewest points (17.3).

The record-setting extension surpasses the four-year, $188-million deal signed by Micah Parsons after the Green Bay Packers acquired him in a trade. It also comes after Anderson posted career highs of 20 tackles for loss and 12 sacks, which also helped him in earning first-team All-Pro honors.

The Texans had recently exercised the fifth-year option on Anderson’s rookie contract, which would’ve kept him on Houston’s roster through the 2027 season. It was made very clear the Texans planned to extend him, and they were able to get that done.

Anderson has earned a good amount of accolades to start his career with the Texans since they drafted him third overall in 2023. Anderson has won the 2023 Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as two Pro Bowl nods.

Houston looks to continue to lock up key starters across their roster this offseason. For example, they already signed Danielle Hunter to a one-year, $40-million deal and tight end Dalton Schultz to a one-year deal worth $12.6 million. Quarterback C.J. Stroud is also eligible for an extension this offseason after the team picked up his fifth-year option on April 8, so there’s a chance we see him get extended in the near future.
