It sounds like the Broncos will be getting a key offensive weapon back. Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams was removed from the team’s injury report heading into Week 6.
Williams last played in Week 4 against the Chicago Bears but was only available on 17% of the team’s offensive snaps. A quad injury has kept Williams sidelined since then.
The former second round pick was only available for four games last season due to a torn ACL. However, he showed promise as a rookie in 2021. He totaled 1,219 total yards and seven touchdowns in his debut campaign while averaging five yards per touch.
Broncos Head Coach Sean Payton said Javonte Williams was “close” to playing against the Jets in Week 5. “Look, had that been a playoff game or we felt like we had to have him, I think that he could’ve gone,” Payton said Tuesday. “But [there was] the risk of possibly having a setback, and we just felt like that was too much.”
Facing the Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, Williams will be a huge piece to get back. The Chiefs have allowed 97.2 rushing yards and 16 points per game. Those marks rank 11th and tied for fifth in the NFL, respectively. It’s a tough matchup to return for, but the Broncos could really use him. If he is able to return, look for Williams to be involved a good amount with the Broncos offense.
