Ever since LSU football has hired Brian Kelly as head coach three seasons ago, LSU has started the season 0-1 each season. Last night’s loss to USC was the nail in the coffin for fans.
The last time LSU won a season opener was in 2019, the same year the would go onto win the National Championship. Since then, LSU has been trying something different in opening week.
Instead of playing a lower level school and beating the brakes off of them 63-7, LSU has decided to start doing these premiere match-up against top 25 schools.
Which does two things to a team if you lose, kills your shot at a perfect season (which isn’t as important in the 12 team playoff format), and kills your teams confidence before it even gets going.
LSU has not been a bad team by any means under Brian Kelly, even last season’s quarterback Jayden Daniels won the Heisman trophy. However starting 0-1 has killed their shot at making a championship run.
Again this season is different with the 12 team format, however, there will be a lot of hungry teams looking to get into those 12 spots. Almost have to win out, which puts extra added pressure on the team later in the season.
It is almost like adding extra pressure to every single game here on out. LSU, one game into the season and already their backs are against the walls.
Rumblings of the fanbase growing tired of the Brian Kelly era at LSU are getting louder and louder.
