The Eagles were looking to extend DeVonta Smith, and they managed to do just that.
The Philadelphia Eagles exercised the fifth-year option on wide receiver DeVonta Smith. The Eagles signed him to a three-year extension that will go through the 2028 season, the team announced Monday.
The three-year deal is worth $75 million and contains $51 million in guaranteed money, according to Ian Rappoport.
Smith’s extension averages $25 million per year, which ties him with teammate A.J. Brown for fourth highest among NFL receivers. Brown signed his four-year, $100-million deal in 2022.
This is a really smart move by the Eagles. Not only do they keep their two studs at receiver, they get ahead of the market price. As the NFL continues to go up and to the right, the price to play players continues to do the same. Due to this, this deal should look great for both sides as the years go on.
Smith has been a really good player for the Eagles. The former 10th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has gone over 900 receiving yards in each of his three NFL seasons. He caught 81 passes for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Devonta Smith’s best season came in 2022 when he set personal bests with 95 receptions and 1,196 receiving yards.
The Eagles now have Smith and quarterback Jalen Hurts under contract through the 2028 season. However, Brown’s deal expires following the 2026 season. This gives the Eagles a few more chances to make it back to the Super Bowl with their “big three” on offense.
