Rumors and speculations of Virginia Basketball having a bad season after the surprise retirement of head coach Tony Bennett. Bennett’s retirement came weeks before this season started.

After 15 seasons as the head coach of Virginia Basketball, Bennett’s abrupt retirement left the college basketball world in shock. Over those 15 seasons, Bennett and Virginia made a name for themselves as winners.

Bennett led Virginia Basketball to the NCAA Tournament in 10 of his 15 seasons. With Bennett and Virginia reaching the height of National Champion in 2019.

Virginia Basketball Future

Ron Sanchez stepped in as interim head coach of Virginia for this season and so far has the Cavaliers off to a hot start.

After the 70-60 win over Villanova this past weekend, Virginia Basketball is 3-0 and looking like a contender in the ACC.

The defense in which Bennett’s Virginia teams relied on is still there as Virginia held all three opponents under 61 points. Campbell scored 56 on them opening night, Coppin State was held to 45, and Villanova reached 60.

The offense looks smooth as well under Sanchez. The closest margin of victory this season has been 9 points coming from Campbell on opening night.

This Virginia Basketball program looks, at the moment at least, to not have missed a beat so far to start this season. The excitement going into ACC play will be there for Cavalier fans in Virginia.
