The Houston Texans and defensive back Jalen Pitre agreed to terms on a three-year extension worth roughly $39 million, sources told Ian Rapoport.

His deal includes over $29 million in guaranteed money, the most among nickel cornerbacks league-wide, according to Tom Pelissero.

The 25-year-old was entering the final year of his rookie contract. The Texans had drafted Pitre in the second round in 2022.

Pitre originally began his career as a starting safety in Houston, but then switched to the nickel position ahead of the 2024 season. He just completed his third season with the Texans, which sadly ended early after he suffered a torn pectoral muscle that required surgery.

Pitre tallied 65 total tackles, eight passes defended, and one interception in 12 games last season.

He led the Texans with 147 combined tackles and five interceptions as a rookie in 2022. Pitre hasn’t matched those totals since.

Houston previously locked up star corner Derek Stingley Jr. on an extension that reportedly made him the highest-paid defensive back in NFL history. Pitre, Stingley, and Kamari Lassiter help the Texans form one of the NFL’s best young cornerback groups.

The Texans also traded for safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson this offseason, who is fresh off his Super Bowl win with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Houston won the AFC South and advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs in both of the last two seasons.
