Syracuse basketball is projected to 9-22 after their pathetic 6-8 start to the 2024-25 season. The Orangemen have not put together back to back wins since November and get totally blown out of the gym against good competition.
To put it in simple terms, Syracuse basketball has a coaching problem. Meaning the coach is the problem. This team lacks discipline, fundamentals, and flat out does not look like a team that can win ball games.
The 0-3 conference record early on in the season is a sign of what is to come sadly. Also, the 0-4 record against quad 1 teams, or the 0-3 record against quad 2 teams, or even the 1-1 record against quad 3 teams is a sign of what this team is.
The talent is there, these kids can play, however the coaching is failing them. I have given coach Adrian Autry the benefit of the doubt for long enough. I believe the writing is on the wall, no recruit or transfer can save Syracuse basketball until the program itself saves itself.
Syracuse Basketball Metrics
The Orangemen are only top 50 in the nation in two statistics; defensive rebounding and turnovers. As in they turn the ball over for fun.
Even with the top 12 ranking in defensive rebounding, they are ranked 303rd in defensive efficiency giving up 1.09 points per possession. Meaning is you are on offense against Syracuse, you are guaranteed to score at least 1 point every possession.
They shoot the ball horribly from behind the arc, not due to lack of ability, yet due to horrible shot selection. Shooting 28% from three point range so far on the season.
They barely beat bad teams and get blown out by good ones. Also in the midst of any given game emotions are due to run high.
Simple things such as boxing out and rotating on defense properly are the Achilles heel of this Syracuse basketball program.
Small things, again, the fundamentals are missing. It is time to move on from the heir to Jim Boeheim as Adrian Autry is the problem with Syracuse basketball.
