Nebraska basketball has been on a tear early in the season this year. After winning the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic over Christmas, the Cornhuskers backed it up going into conference play.
With a huge win over UCLA, Nebraska proved they are one of the best teams not only in the BIG 10, yet rather one of the best teams in the nation. With a 12-2 record on the season they are letting their play do the talking.
Their only two losses are to a great St. Mary’s team and one of the best Michigan State teams Tom Izzo has put together in a while.
Nebraska is ranked 12 in the nation in defensive efficiency and has one of the best two way stars this sport has ever seen in Brice Williams. I mean the kid is special.
Nebraska Basketball Has Something This Season
Williams, reminiscent of Kawhi Leonard in both his game and looks. He has that in control at all times demeanor combined with a killer jump shot and lock down defense. He is averaging 18.8 points per game and leading the way intensity wise on the defensive end. Williams has the size and game of a for sure NBA first round pick.
Nebraska holds opponents to an average of 0.89 points per possession and hasn’t let anyone score over 70 points since December 1st, 2024. That is a 7 game stretch of dominant defense, including a tournament where they played three games in three days. They brought the intensity all three days.
The BIG 10 in college basketball is always a gauntlet. Nebraska will need to bring their “A” game every game in order to compete, however if there is one team I would not count out of any game, it is them.
Way too early in the season, yet, I think this team has what it takes to be one of the final 16 teams standing come March.
