The Kansas City Chiefs have traded star cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams, sources told Ian Rapoport. Los Angeles sent over their 29th overall pick, fifth round, and sixth-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft. They also added on a third-round pick in the 2027 draft, and all of that was sent over to Kansas City in exchange for McDuffie.
McDuffie also got a new contract once the trade was finalized, per Rapoport. He was in line to earn $13.6 million in 2026 after the Chiefs picked up the fifth-year option in his rookie contract. But now, the Los Angeles Rams have made Trent McDuffie the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history, signing him to a four-year, $124-million extension. McDuffie’s deal will include $100 million guaranteed, Schefter adds.
McDuffie leads all cornerbacks with 34 QB pressures and eight forced fumbles since entering the league in 2022, per Next Gen Stats. He also tallied three interceptions and 34 defended passes over four seasons with Kansas City.
The acquisition of McDuffie adds an All-Pro talent to Los Angeles’ defensive secondary. He’ll headline a defensive back unit that features Quentin Lake and Darious Williams. The Rams also received Jaylen Watson from the Chiefs as well this off-season.
After coming up just short to the Seattle Seahawks last season and the NFC Championship game, the Rams have decided to go all in. On top of the cornerback moves that they made, they also were able to trade for Myles Garrett in the Cleveland Browns. What makes this defense even more dangerous is there are not so secret rumors anymore that Aaron Donald is coming back.
