The Pittsburgh Steelers will be the designated host team when the NFL plays its first regular-season game in Ireland next season, the league announced earlier this month.

The Steelers’ opponent for the game in Dublin wasn’t revealed, but should be at the latest in May, when the NFL schedule release happens.

The game will be one of several international games in 2025. The league also has games scheduled in London, Germany, and Mexico. Australia will host a game for the first time in 2026 as well, as a part of the NFL’s continued efforts to grow the game internationally. It even just got announced recently that the Los Angeles Chargers will be playing a game in Brazil Week 1.

Pittsburgh finished second in the AFC North in 2024 with a 10-7 record. The Steelers lost 28-14 to the Baltimore Ravens in the opening round of the playoffs.

The Steelers face uncertainty at the quarterback position with both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields scheduled to hit free agency. Wilson was named a Pro Bowl alternate with 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions in 11 starts this season. Fields started the team’s six other games and threw for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and one pick. He also had 289 rush yards and five rushing touchdowns.

Dan Rooney, who was the Steelers’ primary owner from 1988-2016 before he died in 2017, was the United States ambassador to Ireland from July 2009 until December 2012.
