The Green Bay Packers have decided to release cornerback Jaire Alexander, sources told  Ian Rapoport.

The Packers and Alexander have spent much of the offseason evaluating their options, as a potential trade and restructured contract were on the table before the release.

It was reported in May that Green Bay offered a restructured contract to Alexander, who had two years left on a four-year, $84-million extension he signed in 2022.

Jaire Alexander was going to earn a base salary of $16.15 million in 2025. However, the final two years of his contract contained no guaranteed money.

The 28 year old biggest struggle has been battling injuries in recent years. He played seven or less gams in three of his last four seasons.

“He has been a great player for us,” Packers president Mark Murphy said Monday, according to Dave Schroeder of WBAY-TV. “Obviously, elite talent. Unfortunately, just injured a lot.”

When healthy, Alexander was a key part of the Packers’ defense. His best season came in 2022 when he recorded a career high five interceptions in 16 starts.
