Sometimes, football has some scary and sad moments. Nick Chubb will be missing the remainder of the season after suffering a gruesome knee injury.
The Injury
They did not show the replay on Monday Night, and I do not recommend seeking it out if you have not seen it. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman set the scene of truly how scary it was.
“I’m told the replay of Nick Chubb getting injured is not to be seen,” Buck said on the ABC broadcast. As Buck said that, the replay was shown in the stadium, and the crowd reacted loudly with groans and sounds of shock.. “Yeah, we’re not going to show it. It’s as bad as you can imagine,” analyst Troy Aikman said. It almost brings me to tears just to type this out. Injuries absolutely suck, but this is one of those on a different level. Chubb was carted off the field after going down, and Steelers fans, who saw the replay, chanted his name and gave him an ovation as he left for the locker room
Chubb was hit low by Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick as he was being dragged down by another defender. That caused his knee to bend in a way it shouldn’t. Chubb was immediately ruled out for the game, and shortly after was ruled out for the season.
The outcome?
Chubb sustained a major knee injury while playing for Georgia in college when he was tackled near the sideline and landed awkwardly. That came during the 2015 season and was to the same left knee he injured Monday night. Chubb returned for the 2016 and 2017 seasons at Georgia and was a second-round draft pick of the Browns.
“It’s a blow for the whole team and we don’t want his injury to be in vain,” Myles Garrett with the team said in a postgame player press conference. “We got to push on, that’s what he’d want us to do. And if he had any choice in the matter, that’s what he would do. Just gotta continue to fight and use it as motivation.”
Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson said Chubb’s injury prompted “a lot of flashbacks to the previous one he had in college.” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski told ESPN’s Lisa Salters what Chubb’s loss meant.
“It really was terrible just losing a player like Nick Chubb. He’s a huge part of our team,” Stefanski said. “He’s a great player, a great person. To see him go down like that was tough to see. He’s a huge part of our team. He’s a great player. As good of a teammate as I’ve been around.”
Prayers and well wishes to Nick Chubb on his road to recovery!
