Nick Bosa got himself a very massive payday.
San Francisco 49ers star pass-rusher Nick Bosa is set to become the NFL’s highest-paid defender. This is after agreeing to terms on a five-year, $170-million extension, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The 49ers edge rusher has been holding out all offseason in order to get a new deal, and it seems as if it was worth it.
Bosa will reportedly get $122.5 million guaranteed. He also lands the biggest contract ever given to a non-quarterback. He will get an annual average salary of $34 million, surpassing the three-year, $95-million extension Aaron Donald signed in June 2022. Bosa was entering the final year of his rookie contract, which would’ve paid out $17.8 million in 2023. Also according to Ian Rappoport, the 49ers are expected to waive all the fines that Bosa incurred during his holdout.
When it comes to playing Sunday, it sounds like Bosa will be ready to go. “He’d have to have a beer belly and be out of shape,” Kyle Shanahan said when asked if Bosa will play Saturday.
The 49ers star pass rusher becomes the latest 49ers standout to earn a lucrative extension over the past few off-season’s. He follows in the footsteps of George Kittle, Fred Warner, and Deebo Samuel.
This is not only a huge deal for Nick Bosa, but this is a huge deal for all edge rushers. There were rumors out there that guys like Chandler Jones, Brian Burns, etc. were waiting on the Nick Bosa deal. With this deal now signed, I would not be shocked if we saw more defenders get deals in the coming weeks.
