The New York Mets are everything but dead in this playoff race. After taking on the Baltimore Orioles this week and winning the series thanks to two walk off wins, the Mets are now only 1.5 games back from a wild card spot.
On Monday with the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning Francisco Alvarez stepped up to the plate and hit a rocket to left center field.
Then again on Wednesday afternoon, the Mets and O’s found the game tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the ninth inning. To almost the exact spot as Alvarez’s home run, Jesse Winker hit an emphatic home run to win the game. Winker then celebrated by running the bases helmet-less showing off his newly grown locks.
The New York Mets have had a roller coaster of seasons the past two years and somehow at this very moment find themselves 66-61 and less than two games out of the playoffs.
This team is built perfectly pitching wise for short three game series. And could be one of those teams to watch out for if they do steal that last wild card spot from the division foe Atlanta Braves.
New York will start a series against the San Diego Padres later on today, another hot team in the NL wild card race. Padres currently hold a wild card spot and are 5.5 games above the Mets.
