There will be no change to quarterback in New England as of now. Despite being benched in two straight games, Mac Jones will start Sunday’s matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
When asked about the question, Bill Belichick had this to say; “Yeah, we’re not making any changes,” according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss. Very fitting answer from Bill.
Jones was pulled in two straight blowout losses to the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys over the last two weeks. New England went on to lose both of those games by a combined score of 72-3, dropping the club to 1-4 on the season and the offense not looking the best. Belichick defended Jones following the Saints loss, telling reporters that it wasn’t all the quarterback’s fault and that he would remain the starter.
Jones threw for just 260 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions across the two games. Meanwhile, the offense has committed six total turnovers. And only scored three points in the two games.
The Patriots have the worst offensive output in the NFL, averaging a measly 11 points per game. New England is off to its first 1-4 start since 2000. If Mac Jones and the offense fails to turn it around soon, you can maybe expect some changes to be coming in the near future.
