Houston Cougars are Number 1 in Big 12.

In November, there were a few things that I was sure about when it comes to this college basketball season. One thing I did get right however, besides UConn being the best team I have ever seen, is that this will be the last great college basketball season. Honestly, last season was probably the last great college basketball season.
Houston would struggle in Big 12 play their first season in a quote un quote real conference. Memphis would be a final four team.
Yes, that is it, as well as Hunter Dickinson and Donovan Clingan for the Wooden Award. I was completely wrong about Houston and Memphis, both in opposite ways.
Houston Cougars are DOMINATING Big 12
Houston has maybe the biggest game of the regular season scheduled for tonight as they host Iowa State. The Cyclones of Iowa State beat Houston by four earlier in the season, at the time giving Houston their first of three losses.
Only three losses on the season, has the Houston Cougars ranked at the moment as the number three team in the nation. Later today they will probably be number 2 after Purdue’s loss to Ohio State.
Houston is 9-3 in conference play, tied at the moment with Iowa State and one game in front of the 8-4 Baylor Bears.
In their first season in the Big 12 I expected Houston to fall towards the middle of the pack as the regular season went on. With only 6 games left in regular season play, Houston is projected to win all 6 remaining games and finish the season 28-3 (15-3 conference play).
Houston Basketball By the Numbers
Houston is one of the few teams who has yet to record a loss outside of quad 1 and is tied with Purdue for the second best record in all of the sport.
As far as rankings go, Houston is number 1 in both NET and RW rankings. (RW= RotoWire). The Cougars are number 3 in the RPI Rankings.
As far as efficiency goes, this team is top 12 in both offense and defense of efficiency. Sitting at number 12 in offense of efficiency averaging 1.12 points per possession. On defense they are even better, sitting at number 1 in the nation only allowing 0.82 points per possession.
This team is top 5 in 6 different statistics, sitting at number 1 in 2 of them and number 2 in one. Also sitting at number 8 in 3 point % against them, which will bode well for the Cougars come March.
Houston averages just under 74 points per game and is holding opponents to 55 points per game. Averaging around 40 rebounds per game, 13 assist, five blocks, and 10, yes, 10 steals per game.
One thing is for sure, this Houston team will be Final Four or bust come March, and I can guarantee you nobody wants to run into them in the bracket.
