The deadline is gone now, and Jonathan Taylor is still a Colt.

The Colts did not find a suitable trade offer to what they wanted, so Taylor was not moved. Indianapolis was seeking a first-round pick or multiple Day 2 selections as part of a trade.

Instead, the Colts star running back will start the season on the physically unable to perform list. This means he’ll miss at least the first four games of the 2023 season. The Dolphins engaged with the Colts in trade talks regarding Taylor, but Miami’s first offer was reportedly rejected. A few other teams were involved as well, including the Eagles and Bears.

Indianapolis can still trade Jonathan Taylor, but he’d be ineligible to play the first four games of the season on another team. This year’s trade deadline is Oct. 31. In their first four weeks of the new season campaign, the Colts face the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, and Los Angeles Rams.

With Taylors status beyond unclear as to if he will just be missing the four games or is done as a Colt, there are a few questions as to what the Colts will do at running back. Indianapolis’ running back depth chart is headlined by Zack Moss, Deon Jackson, and fifth-round rookie Evan Hull.  I personally see Deon Jackson and Evan Hull getting bigger roles as the season goes on. However, there could be so much change from week to week. With the Colts trying to build a new culture, this will be an interesting story to watch.
