QB1?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles seems to be in no rush to name a starting quarterback for Week One. The Buccaneers are deciding between Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask for the starting job.
In an interview, Bowles came out and said ” we do not have a time table, we will name it when we name it. We feel Comfortable with where we’re at, so we’ll go from there.” Bowles has come out and said the team is using both practice and the preseason to evaluate who will be their starting man. There are some players on the Buccaneers offense who would love to have a starter named for continuity sake. However, Bowles seems to have other ideas in mind.
“They’ve had it all camp; they’ve had it all spring,” Bowles said. “We do not need to worry about the continuity part- everybody has got plenty of reps together. Two weeks will be fine for us.” Mayfield and Trask are both in line to play in the final preseason game.
Who will start Week 1?
When it comes to the Bucs, I just have a feeling we may see both guys here. One way this could happen is Baker Mayfield is named the starter, and does not play well. If that is the case, there is a good chance we could see Trask. The same could go the other way if Trask gets the start, although Trask may have a longer leash. The Bucs play the Minnesota Vikings September 10th. I see Baker Mayfield being the starter by then, but do not be shocked if you see Trask get some playing time early on this season.
