Auburn Basketball flew to Houston on Saturday night to take on the Houston Cougars. That sentence right there has it’s on story worth a million dollars. Auburn had an altercation mid-air in flight.
As they say in show business, the show must go on. In the ESPN’s top 25 AP Poll Auburn came in ranked 11th and Houston 4th. However, in the Kenpom’s offense and defensive efficiency Houston ranked 1st and Auburn 2nd.
This game was expected to be all about defense as these two hard nose teams face off. Yet, it was Auburn’s offense that made the difference in the second half.
At halftime it appeared Houston was in full control, leading the game by 5 points, 33-28. Just like that, the Tigers of Auburn started heating up.
Auburn v Houston: Tale of Two Halves
Auburn would go on to score a 46 points in the second half alone, outscoring Houston by 10. Which for all of the math majors out there means the won the game by 5 points. The total being 74-69.
Auburn showed, excuse the pun here, FIGHT down the stretch. The energy was that they were not getting back on that plane with a loss.
Both teams tallied 33 rebounds, the assist numbers proved other wise. Auburn doubled Houston’s assist numbers 14-7 leaving Houston with under 10 assist the entire game. I am used to seeing one player with 7 assist, not the entire team.
In the words of Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl, “That’s Auburn being Auburn.”
It is only November, yet, this game proved that the Madness is real, and the Madness has begun.
