The Minnesota Vikings and Aaron Jones agreed to a revised contract that will keep the running back with the team for the 2026 season, sources told Tom Pelissero. Jones’ base salary has been reduced from $9 million to $5.5 million in the reworked deal. This all comes after Jones re-signed on a two-year extension worth up to $20 million last March.

Minnesota reportedly was originally planning to release the veteran at the start of the new league year. The 31-year-old has spent two seasons with the Vikings so far.

Jones has suited up in 29 games for Minnesota, totaling 2,293 scrimmage yards with 10 touchdowns on 466 touches. However, he only played in 12 games last season after spending a decent amount of time on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Jordan Mason is under contract for 2026 after leading the team in rushing last season. Ty Chandler, who’s totaled 181 carries with the Vikings since being selected in the fifth round of the 2022 draft, became an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

This should be a very interesting offseason and regular season for the Vikings, as they try to figure out who will be their starting quarterback to begin this season. Either way, the starting quarterback will have a veteran running back in Aaron Jones to rely on.

It was very good that the Vikings were able to keep Aaron Jones, as multiple players came out and said he was a big part of the locker room and culture for the building.
