Over the weekend, two of the best teams in the league this season both reached the 70 win club. Funny or should I say dramatic thing about this is that both of these now 70 win teams are in the same division fighting to the finish.
70 Win Teams
The Baltimore Orioles were the first team to hit the 70 win mark this season in a 7-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday night. The New York Yankees that day had a chance to also reach 70 wins after they beat the Texas Rangers 8-0 in the first game of a double header.
The Yankees would go on to lose game two of that double header 9-4, going to bed that night at 69 wins. New York would notch win number 70 the following day however, tying things at the top of the AL East with Baltimore.
Other Teams right behind them…
Going into Monday, August 12th, 2024 there are a few other teams looking to hit the 70 win mark by the end of the week. With so much talent spread out this season, the fans are truly in for a treat come October baseball.
The Los Angeles Dodgers look to reach 70 wins tonight as they go up against the Brewers in Milwaukee with Kershaw on the mound.
Do not look now, yet, even with the struggles in August, the Cleveland Guardians are at that 69 win mark as well. They will travel to Chicago tonight to kick off a series against the red hot Cubs.
The Phillies, who have the number one spot in their division by 7.5 games over the Braves and 8 games over the Mets are also at the 69 win mark. They have an off day today before taking on the Marlins in Miami tomorrow.
I mention the Milwaukee Brewers earlier, yet I did not mention that they are sitting at 67 wins on the season and currently hold a 7.5 game lead in the division. The 60 win Cardinals are behind them in the division.
The Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins are both a few games back of the Guardians sitting at 65 wins a piece on the season.
Also in the NL West, sitting behind the Dodgers are two teams at 66 wins after both caught fire once the calendar turned to August. The San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks. Two teams looking to make a deep playoff run.
