The Saints have signed running back Travis Etienne to a four-year, $52-million deal, sources told Ian Rapoport.
A Louisiana native, Etienne joins the Saints after rushing for 1,107 yards with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. He also scored 13 total touchdowns, with seven of those on the ground and six more as a receiver.
He profiles similarly to Alvin Kamara, who’s under contract through 2026 but has an uncertain future in New Orleans. Kamara, who is 30, averaged a career-low 3.6 yards per carry last season and carries a $10.4-million cap hit next season, per Over the Cap. Kamara has made it clear he will only play for the Saints, with the Saints having yet to announce if they plan on keeping this duo together.
Etienne was selected in the first round of the 2021 draft and has compiled 5,136 yards from scrimmage over his four-year career. With how much Kamara struggled last year, it only made sense to bring in a talented running back like Etienne.
Travis Etienne joining the team should help the Saints take the next step this season, as they looked to continue to build under Tyler Shough and Kellen Moore.
