Last night Creighton opened their season against UT Rio Grande Valley. Ryan Kalkbrenner would have one of the most efficient shooting nights in history while scoring 49 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The 49 points being the 2nd most by a Creighton player in a single game ever.
Ryan Kalkbrenner led the Bluejays to a 13 point victory, making 20 of his 22 shot attempts including 2 three pointers. The last player to shoot 90% or higher on 20+ field goals was Bill Walton in the 1973 National Title game. The late great Walton’s birthday passed earlier this week.
Kalkbrenner also led his team on the defensive end recording 3 blocks on the night. Steven Ashworth also did his part chipping in 25 points shooting 17 for 17 from the free throw line.
Creighton came into the game as 31.5 point favorites and needed all of Kalkbrenner and Ashworths points to seal the game.
Creighton has big expectations this season as Ryan Kalkbrenner is in the top 10 of the Wooden Award Player of the Year favorites. He is currently priced at +2600 and sitting at number 7 on the odds board.
The Bluejays will take on Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday evening on FS1.
