The Steelers lost more than pride in the game against the Houston Texans. Amongst the injuries the Steelers faced Sunday was tight end Pat Freiermuth.
Pat Freiermuth is expected to be out 2-3 weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury during Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Texans. Freiermuth left against the Texans for what Gerry Dulac described afterward as “not just a tweak.” He underwent an MRI and is not set to be put on IR for multiple weeks because of the injury.
Per the report, Freiermuth may only miss one game. The Steelers have a bye week following Sunday’s game against Baltimore. The Steelers will then travel to Los Angeles to face the Rams in Week 7. Freiermuth should avoid being placed on injured reserve with his current injury timetable.
With Freiermuth gone, rookie Darnell Washington and do-it-all tight end Connor Heyward will likely see more playing time in the coming weeks. They’ve been a smaller part of the Steelers’ offense this year. They have combined for only three catches and 29 yards in the first four games of the year.
Along with Freiermuth, Pittsburgh is also dealing with injuries to Pickett, offensive linemen James Daniels, Dan Moore Jr., and punter Pressley Harvin III.
The Steelers offense has been a mess to start off this season. Through four games, the Steelers’ offense currently ranks 25th in the NFL in scoring and passing, 29th in rushing, 22nd in third-down efficiency and 28th in the red zone. With how the season has started off for the Steelers, we may be in for some changes here soon.
