Longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans has signed a three-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers, according to Adam Schefter. Evans played his first 12 NFL seasons with the Buccaneers before signing a deal to move on from the team this offseason. This also made Evans become a free agent for the first time in his career at age 32.
The reported deal is worth up to $60.4 million, Schefter reports. This move especially stings a bit for Jason Licht, as Mike Evans was the first draft pick of the Bucs General Manager.
Evans established himself as one of the best red-zone weapons in the NFL while topping 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 seasons. That streak ended last season as injuries limited him to only 30 catches for 368 yards and three touchdowns. The worst part about this was he only played in eight games.
Wide receiver was one of the Niners’ biggest question marks heading into this offseason. Jauan Jennings was also a free agent, who ended up signing with the Minnesota Vikings. San Francisco could also be parting with former All-Pro wideout Brandon Aiyuk, but that situation has become beyond strange.
This Mike Evans move was a much needed move for San Francisco. Ricky Pearsall headlines the team’s depth chart at wide receiver, but the 2024 first-round receiver has struggled to stay on the field health wise.
