This season has been full of top teams losing, the latest victim being number 1 ranked Kansas basketball. The Jayhawks lose two games in a row last week to unranked opponents.

Both Creighton and Missouri are respectable teams and will likely both be in the tournament come March. However, the common theme in both losses for Kansas was the lack of perimeter scoring and the defense allowing opponents to light them up from inside.

Creighton shot the ball 47.2% from the floor against Kansas with a dominating game from both Ryan Kalkbrenner and Pop Isaacs. Kalkbrenner ended with a double-double, 17 points and 10 rebounds. Isaacs put up a whooping 27 points and 7 rebounds. Creighton out rebounded Kansas 44 to 31.

Missouri also had an amazing shooting night even with a horrible three point percentage. Shooting the ball 44.2% from the floor despite only shooting 30.8% from deep.

In both games, Kansas struggled to get points from beyond the arc shooting an identical 8-23 (34.8%) from deep in both games.

It appears teams are realizing attacking Kansas’ interior defense is effective. Kansas will need to toughen up in the paint and work on outside shooting if they want to have a real chance to hold the trophy come March.
