A loss for the Vikings is made worse. The Minnesota Vikings put star receiver Justin Jefferson on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, sources told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Jefferson will miss at least the next four games once he’s placed on the reserve list. The Vikings have the Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, and Atlanta Falcons on the schedule.
The exact timeline is TBD based on how long it takes Jefferson to heal and how he responds to treatment. But he is out at least four games in a crushing blow to the Vikings.
Up to this point, Jefferson was yet to miss a game in his career. The All-Pro wideout, left Minnesota’s Week 5 contest against the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth quarter favoring his hamstring. The three-time Pro Bowler sustained the injury when he slipped on the turf while trying to make a cut on a route. He did not return for the remainder of the game.
This is a huge loss for the struggling Vikings squad. Jefferson leads all Vikings pass-catchers with 36 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns through five games. He has been one of the few bright spots on their offense, and the Vikings could use a speedy recovery. Jordan Addison, K.J. Osborn, and tight end T.J. Hockenson will likely see an increase in targets with Jefferson out and on the mend.
