It has been out there that the Lions were looking to extend Jared Goff, and they have done just that.

The Detroit Lions are signing quarterback Jared Goff to a four-year, $212-million extension that includes $170 million guaranteed, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Goff is now signed through 2027, and his contract includes an option for 2028, a source told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The reported deal makes Goff the highest-paid player in the history of the Detroit Lions. His $53-million average annual salary now ranks second among quarterbacks behind only Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, who has an average of $55 million.

Goff helped not only completely turn around Detroit, but turn the Lions into an NFC contender after the Lions acquired him as part of the Matthew Stafford trade in 2021. The three time Pro Bowler posted a career single-season high 67.3% completion rate in 2023, as well as 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns against 12 interceptions.

The 2016 number 1 overall pick has passed for 78 touchdowns and 27 interceptions in 48 starts for the Lions so far. This past season he helped the Lions win their first-ever NFC North title with a 12-5 record, and even reached the conference title game.

Goff’s contract is the latest lucrative long-term deal in what’s been a busy offseason for the Lions rewarding their guys. Detroit recently handed wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown signed a four-year, $120-million extension, while also giving offensive tackle Penei Sewell a four-year deal worth $112 million.

This just shows that a change of scenery can do so much for you. From a Super Bowl, to being traded out of LA, to now being the face of a team that truly wants and loves him. Shoutout to Jared Goff.  At just 29 years old, he looks to continue his strong play for at least a few more years.
