The Josh Harris era of the Washington Commanders seems to be off to a great start.
A game winning field goal by Joey Sly with nine or eight seconds to go from 49 yards out would be the final score of the game. The 29-28 victory by the Commanders snapped the Baltimore Ravens win streak.
The Ravens have won 24 straight preseason games, beating the former record of 19. The last time the Ravens lost a game before this one to the Commanders was on September 3rd of 2015. The back and forth game saw five lead changes between the squads. When it comes to the seriousness of the preseason, many are dismissing what happened.
John Harbaugh came out last night and said to the critics “You never played the game. You never were out there fighting for a spot on the field. And yet you have the audacity to say that the effort that somebody puts into that to fight and win a game like that, is meaningless.” He then says “I can’t respect anybody that says that, because of the effort these guys put in, and I am so proud of these guys.”
Outcome
While yes, this was just a preseason game, this game seemed to mean a lot to both sides. Howell acknowledged that even though it wasn’t a real game, he did say you do want to win more knowing what the streak the other team had.
Other than losing Terry McLaurin to turf toe, the Commanders had a really successful night last night. Sam Howell even showed some good flashes, going 19 of 25 for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Between Howell and Eric Bieniemy, the Commanders offense looks to have a new life this season. This win could be one of the propelling factors into the Washington Commanders having a good season.
