The Cincinnati Bengals have agreed to a two-year contract with former free-agent defensive tackle Jonathan Allen, sources told Jeremy Fowler. It’s a $26-million deal that can be worth up to $28 million with incentives, reports Tom Pelissero.
Jonathan Allen officially became a free agent earlier this offseason after spending the past season with the Minnesota Vikings. Allen had previously played eight seasons for the Washington Commanders, earning two Pro Bowl berths during those eight seasons.
The 31-year-old is coming off a solid seasons with the Vikings, where he was able to register 68 tackles (seven for loss) and 3.5 sacks.
The Bengals have really prioritized their defense this offseason, with signings like Allen along with edge rusher Boye Mafe and safety Bryan Cook.. Last season was one of the worst defensive performances the Bengals have put up, and they’ve truly struggled with their defense the last couple of seasons. Another reason for this focus is the Bengals have missed the playoffs the past three years after coming up just short in the Super Bowl.
