Purdue’s first game was a blowout win against Samford. The total score was 98 to 45 which allowed Zach Edey to relax on the bench for half of the game.

However in his limited minutes, he not only produced, he played with a chip on his shoulder. There was an intense beam in his eyes, this kid looks like he mentally reached another level.

Add the guard play which has gotten better over the summer around Edey to the picture. Purdue might be a team to reckon with come March.

Zach Edey in Opener

Edey only played 20 minutes on Monday, yet still produced at a high level. He scored 16 points and grabbed 11 boards. Also had a few blocks on the defensive end.

When he was not blocking shots, just him being more active with his hands on defensive had the offense double thinking.

His presence was felt last night like I have never seen before. A needed edge is all his game has been missing. A new confidence is seen in his movements. To simplify it, he looks comfortable with his game.

Last few years his still looks hesitant and like he was over thinking his next move, learning the game. Last night his movements were reactions instead of thoughts. Allowing him to be there early or on time instead of late.

When a player of his size becomes comfortable with everything and has the talent he has, the confidence and edge comes out.

My prediction, we are about to see last year’s Wooden Award winner, Zach Edey at his best this season. Purdue fans, prepare.
