Virginia took of Texas Southern Thursday night and brought their defense with them. Holding TSU to under 20 points in each half, winning the game 62-33.
Virginia’s stifling defense only allowed Texas Southern to make 12 shots the entire game. Only three of them being behind the arc. Shooting an abysmal 26% on the night.
When your defense is playing like that the offense can cruise. Which is what it did, shooting 43% to score the 62 points.
At halftime this game was 26 to 14, wow.
Virginia Puts Nation on notice
The Cavaliers on defense forced 20 turnovers, 13 of them being steals. While also manning the paint with 10 blocked shots.
Texas Southern only scored 14 points in the first half, and 19 in the second half. Not sure on the record, however I am pretty sure this is the first time I have personally seen a team not score 20 points or more in a single half of play.
Only one player on both teams scored in double digits. That play was Ryan Dunn, who shot 3-5 from the field and scored 15 points, 8 of which from the free throw line.
Virginia did have six other players at least score 5 or more points. Again to be redundant, who needs offense with a defense only allowing 33 points.
TSU only had three players score over 5 points, the point totals were 7,6, and 7.
Virginia’s defense. Suffocating.
