Villanova came into their third game of the season favored by 11.5 against Pennsylvania. Although the game was technically close wire to wire, it never felt like Villanova’s offense was in the building.
Pennsylvania took a two point lead into the half, 32-30. The second half was more of the same, Villanova making it close yet never taking the lead.
The final would end up being 76-72. When I started writing this article it was 69-63 with less than a minute left. After literally madness happened in a flurry of threes followed by fouls, Pennsylvania would hold on to win.
Villanova Shooting Woes
First off, hats off to Pennsylvania for coming away with the win and playing out standing defense on a top 25 team in the country.
Villanova shoots 34.9% from the field and 27.3% from behind the arc in last nights loss. Only three players for Nova scored over double digits led by Justin Moore with 25.
Eric Dixon scored 12 points, however he shot the ball 4 for 11 from the field. Dixon grabbed 9 rebounds to lead the Wildcats on the boards. Jordan Longino is the only other player to score double digits, finishing the game with 14 points off the bench.
Pennsylvania HOT
It is crazy that this game was only won by four points after looking at all of the stats. Pennsylvania shot the ball 51.1% from the field and an amazing 41.2% from three.
Free throws were the only thing keeping Villanova in the game. The Quakers missed 13 free throws on the night, which allowed Villanova to keep it close and stay with hope.
Eight players saw the floor for Pennsylvania, all of which scored. Five of which scored double digits, and one player led the way with 22 points.
Tyler Perkins scored 22 points, and grabbed 6 rebounds. While the rest of the starters all scored between 10 and 12 points a piece.
Pennsylvania is now 3-1 and looking good to start the season.
College basketball is back and this is what it is all about.
