The Pac-12 kicked of conference play for the last time tonight with two games in Oregon. USC at Oregon and UCLA at Oregon State. USC trailed at the half by 17 points, 42-25.

Despite a valiant second half effort, the Trojans fall short. At one point cutting the lead down to 5 before Oregon closed the door for good.

Oregon is now 9-3 (1-0) on the season while USC continues to look lost and continue to pile up losses falling to 6-6 (0-1).

Oregon Gets off and Running

The Ducks took advantage of the free throw line, shooting 17 more free throws and making 16 more. USC committed 11 more fouls than Oregon, as Oregon attacked the paint.

Both teams shot the ball around 46% and both teams made 8 threes. In the first half, USC tried a match-up zone which Oregon looked comfortable attacking.

Kwame Evans Jr, Jackson Shelstad, and Kario Oquendo led the way for the Ducks. Evans Jr scored 22 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and led the team with 5 steals.

Shelstad was right behind him in scoring with 21 points and Oquendo came off the bench to contribute 15 points and 5 boards.

USC had 4 players barely reach double digits, with the stand outs being DJ Rodman and Joshua Morgan. Both players scored 14 points, Morgan however led the team in rebounds with 7. Kobe Johnson came close to a double-double for the Trojans with 7 points and 9 assist.

Better Watch out for Oregon

This Pac-12 season is just heating up, however the Ducks has a team that can seriously compete in this conference. Going into March, this will be a team I expect to see in the Sweet 16.

They will take on UCLA on Saturday in their next game. While USC will stay in Oregon and take on Oregon State looking to bounce back and break .500.

College Basketball is just heating up, January is right around the corner.
