The MLB Trade Deadline is sneaking up on us and there are great players on bad teams looking to be traded to a contender. We will dive into what teams will likely be buyers or sellers before the Trade Deadline early next week in another article.
Here I want to keep it simple, the five best players that have any chance of being traded this week before the MLB Trade Deadline. Now this is nothing but pure speculation, however, a few of these guys will be on the move.
Jazz Chisholm Jr – Miami Marlins
With a career WAR of 7.2, this season 1.3, Chisholm Jr is a young talented player. A player that a lot teams would love to add to their lineup. He is off to a great first half of this season and has a contract through 2026.
He is a player that if you trade for you have ample time of controlling him before having to make a long term commitment. Which is great for teams trying to compete now.
Trading for Chisholm gives a team this season and next season to try and win with him. Trading him for prospects is always an option if he does not pan out.
Chisholm is hitting .251 so far this season while slugging .412 and has an OPS of .736. On top of his hitting, this kid is an above average fielder willing to play and dominate any position up the middle. We have seen him be an amazing short stop, second basemen and center fielder for the Marlins.
Garrett Crochet – Chicago White Sox
Crochet is coming off of an All-Star game appearance and dominating. The first half of the season he could be called the best pitcher so far this season. The 25 year-old starter has proven that he can be a dominate pitcher in this league. Teams are lining up to try and grab him at the deadline.
Any team will tell you, in the playoffs you can never have enough arms to put out there on the mound. He would fit in beautifully on any contender this season.
With a WAR of 4.1, Crochet has recorded a record of 6-7 on possible the worse team in the league this season. Chicago is 27-76 and Crochet has somehow willed them to 6 of those wins.
In 111.1 innings pitched over 21 games the lefty has an ERA of 3.07 and struck out 157 batters.
Dodgers and Phillies are rumored to be after Crochet the hardest as we approach the deadline.
Cedric Mullins – Baltimore Orioles
This one breaks my heart as a fan. With as much as Mullins has meant to this organization over his career, Baltimore is looking to get pitching to add to it’s young core. Rumor has it that both Mullins and Mountcastle are both on the market if the right trade presents itself.
Mullins although he is having a down year, is still one of the top 50-75 players in this league and can help any team make that playoff push.
His WAR this season is 0.5 and his batting average is down to .216. His slugging (.378) and OBP (.258) are down as well.
The 29 year old still has a lot of baseball in the tank and can be huge for a contender as we enter the last two months of the season.
Randy Arozarena – Tampa Bay Rays
Four years ago we thought we were seeing the birth of maybe one of the best players to ever grace a baseball field with his 2020 playoff performance leading the Rays to the World Series.
Since then we have all fallen back down to reality, which for Arozarena is still one of the best players in the league. He, like Mullins might be resurrected by a trade, having a down year compared to his normal stats.
Arozarena is only hitting .209 on the season with 15 home runs. His OBP is .315 and he is slugging .392. However, this guy can impact a game and help your team win. Somebody will be calling just to test the waters with him for sure.
Luis Robert Jr – Chicago White Sox
As bad as the White Sox have been the last two seasons, they are a team full of talent on paper. Luis Robert Jr is the definition of pure talent on a baseball with a career WAR of 13.7.
Chicago has stated they may wait until the off season to move Robert not 100% sure they want to trade him at all. The still 26 year old at one point was the corner stone of the rebuild in 2019-2020. A rebuild that very quickly became a disaster.
Robert is hitting .227, OBP of .300 and slugging .464. I am sure this kid could use a fresh start, and I think it is only a matter of time before he gets it.
Truth is Chicago is going to be making a few trades this week. Robert is on the market yet still not sure what this front office wants to or is willing to do this week before the deadline.
