It is opening day of the 2023-24 college basketball season. It has been a long, cold, agonizing 217 days since we were able to feast our eyes upon the greatest sport in the world. Okay, okay; maybe it hasn’t been that bad.
However today marks the beginning of the journey for every team. The hopes and dreams of a tournament run start now. For the favorite of all favorites as well as the biggest of underdogs.
Each program will look to get off on the right foot with a win in their first game. With each season it seems programs are scheduling tougher competition in November and December.
It feels like in the last five seasons we have seen the program that test their players early and often tend to be some of the sharpest knives come March.
Our First Look: College Hoops
Today will be our first look at some of the big name freshmen we have been hearing rumors about. Their collegiate career will begin in front of our very eyes.
We will see coaches in new colors for the first time, and yes, it does always look weird.
Teams that made magical runs last season will begin the journey of climbing the mountain again. College basketball does not care who you are or who you were last season. You have to lace up your sneakers and prove who you are again.
Big name transfers will dawn their new school colors with as much pride as they did their old ones.
We will see an upset or two, and a whole lot of blowouts on this Monday. Yet, finally it is here, the “Last Great College Basketball Season“.
Our Last Look: College Hoops
Some rivalries that have been going on for many, many decades will see their final bout this season.
This will be the last time a Pac-12 conference has an opening day. The last time we will have this structure to the sport we all love.
Let us embrace this chaos the same way we embrace the madness. For soon it will be gone, and to cherish the beauty before we lose it forever is better than bitterly ignoring it’s grace.
