Today kicks off the third week of the season, as well as kicks off Feast Week. Thanksgiving week full or tournaments across the sport. From the Maui Invitational, Cayman Islands Classic, Sunshine Slam, Gulf Coast Showcase, Paradise Jam, Fort-Myers tip off, Jacksonville Classic, and the SoCal Challenge; just to name a few.
Huge match-ups scheduled in these tournaments as well. We are coming off a weekend with a few upsets, Arkansas and Mizzou.
This past weekend, we were able to open our eyes a little more. Schools coming into the season with hype are getting their balloon popped, St. Mary’s and Maryland.
While other teams we left for dead are showing up 5-0 right now, Nebraska, Liberty, and Mississippi State.
Of course everything else in between, from teams like Memphis and Gonzaga proving that they are who we thought they were. Too Marquette, Creighton, and UConn proving that the Big East this season is nothing to play with.
Big Matchups This Week
It is hard to look to far into the future with Tournaments going on, because you would have to be psychic to know who will win and play each other.
However we can assume that the Maui Invitational that the games will just get better and better as the tournament goes on. Just today to open the tournament in Maui you have matchups like Syracuse and Tennessee, Gonzaga and Purdue, UCLA and Marquette. With Kansas waiting in the wing.
Looking outside of the tournaments at games we know will be played, we have a gorgeous list later in the week. Wednesday for instance, a game between Memphis and Michigan, Colorado State and Boston College, Texas Tech and Villanova, Baylor and Oregon State, and Florida and Pittsburgh. On top of the tourney’s should produce a great day of games.
Thanksgiving day which is what feast week is all about has some beauties as well. Arizona and Michigan State, Seton Hall and USC, and Oklahoma and Iowa.
College Basketball Baby
College Basketball is back and this is what it is all about. We will learn a ton from teams this week and the next month leading up to conference play in January will be electric.
Now that the non-conference scheduling has become a thing of heated matchups I am sure some of these teams cannot wait to see a familiar foe once again.
As this season progresses it becomes more and more obvious, we are witnessing a GREAT college basketball season. Let’s keep trying to ignore the conference realignment and just enjoy the moment that is this season.
