NCAAF Bets: Week 0 (08/26/2023)

Ahhhh, the fresh cut grass, the sun shining, the weather changing as millions of college students and graduates alike pack stadiums new and old to root for the football team that dawns the colors that make their heart putter.
Football is back, the electric energy, the marching bands, and of course, those Dr. Pepper commercials that went out of style 4 seasons ago that we still chuckle at with child-like enjoyment.
I would be lying to you if I said I had bets this weekend in week 0 that I love, honestly all three would not be bet if this were week 6. The combination of this being the first slate of college football games in 6 months and well, truly what else am I going to do on a Saturday. I am a sports bettor by profession and a sports fan at heart.
The Red Beard: NCAAF Bets Week 0
First Bet: Notre Dame is not Winning by Margin
I personally have been looking at this Notre Dame, Navy game for close to 6 weeks now waiting to pounce on the number I want. Well this morning I was able to do that.
It took me spending a little bit of money on some juice but I got the line bettors dream of in a game like this. There is no way in the universe that Notre Dame covers a spread of over three touchdowns. (There is most definitely a universe where it happens)
However, give me the Navy’s offense who will wither the clock away with a powerful and passionate run game. That same run game will not only be able to score against Notre Dame, it will allow it’s own defense to stay fresh.
I do believe Notre Dame wins this game, just think it will be a lot and I mean a lot closer than anyone thinks. No way in my numbers and head do the Fighting Irish win this game by more than 13. I think the offense struggles to find rhythm and the defense wears out toward to middle of the third quarter.
Give me the Navy and the points. I bought some points to get the number that I want, and paid some juice for it. 23-13 Notre Dame wins a tough one. (Navy +21.5 -125)
Second Bet: Everybody and their Momma
I have watched this line jump three points this week alone. I have also seen and heard a high percentage of shows give this bet out. Still it is at a number I like, yet, it is reaching a threshold of getting a little bit too high. Like Lil Wayne on vacation, I am assuming.
UTEP, the mighty Miners, will take on Jacksonville State to open the season and everybody and their mother is on the over in this one. When the number was at 50.5 I thought to myself, I would take it up to 53.5.
I believe this game will come down to a field goal to win it and both teams reach at least 27. If this game does go over, it will go over 54. While I will be on this number at 53.5, I will not touch it if it goes up any more.
Hats off to the people who got in early at 51.5 before the social media surge did it’s thing. 30-28, UTEP with a walk off field goal. (UTEP/Jacksonville St O 53.5 -110)
Third Bet: I don’t like it, Matter of fact I hate it
Again, if this were week 6 there is no way in God’s green earth that I would bet this game. Yet, on account of the excitement getting to me and the fact that this team is considered “national championship contenders”, a notion I laugh at, I will back this team and lay the points.
USC is on a lot of people’s mind as being a team with the best player in the nation. I again laugh at that. I do not believe that USC is back, I do not believe that this team will make the playoffs, nor do I believe Caleb Williams is that good.
However, even with all that being said, this is USC Week 0. A game where they should win by 40 or so points. A game against San Jose State, not such a football school is it?
Give me the Trojans to get their groove back momentarily and blow this team out of the water. 63-10 USC wins. (USC -30.5 -110)
NCAAF Bets: Week 0 Recap
Navy +21.5 -125
UTEP/Jacksonville St O 53.5
USC -30.5 -110
