MLB Bets from The Red Beard Monday (08/07/2023).

All bets have been given out on my daily show “Captain By A Hook with The Red Beard”. Goes live Monday – Friday at 7 am central.

This Monday for my MLB bets I am going with teams that have been hot the last few weeks. I am also fading a few teams that have completely fallen apart as of late or have been absolutely awful all season.

How can it lose, right? I usually like to fade the public over the last decade and find those teams and matchups that you really can’t call.

MLB Bets: Monday (08/07/2023)

First Bet: Most Value

Today I will be riding the HOT Cubs and fading the New York Metropolitans. The Cubbies of Chicago have just taken a series from the best team in baseball over the weekend. I expect them to keep rolling.

The pitching matchup does make me a little nervous however I think Chicago’s bats will show up while the Mets bats have been lost all week.

Drew Smyly, the lefty, has struggled all season, yet still have a winning record of 8-7. Even though his ERA is a little high (4.71), I am not afraid of the Mets offense. I believe he can give us 4-5 innings of quality pitching.

For the Mets, the phenom, Kodai Senga will take the bump. He has some of the best command I have ever seen, yet he is still learning to pitch at the MLB level. His record of 7-6 is impressive giving the fact he is playing for the 2023 Mets. ERA is currently an amazing 3.25.

Ultimately I think the Mets bats are too cold to compete against this Cubs team right now. I think the Cubs get a few runs early and put the nail in the coffin against the bullpen.

Give me the Cubs on the run line at +165. (Cubs -1.5 +165)

Second Bet: Most Juice

This bet will need less of a breakdown, if you have even remotely followed MLB this season then you know how bad the A’s of Oakland are.

You also probably know how good the Texas Rangers have been. Let’s just keep it simple and put both of those facts together on this one.

With Dane Dunning starting, (9-4 record, 3.14 ERA), I can not help myself from riding this Rangers team tonight in Oakland. A’s will give Ken Waldichuk the ball to start the game, (2-7 record, 6.52 ERA).

Give me the Rangers on the run line at -130, pour me up a small glass of juice, delicious. (Rangers -1.5 -130)

Third Bet: The One I Fear the Most

In this sport and any sport, anything can happen on any given day. Any one of these bets can lose, and any one of them can win. This one in particular is the one I like, yet have the least conviction in.

The Cleveland Guardians have been up and down all season. At the moment they are 3-7 in their last 10 games and outside of winning the fight Saturday night, they have lost 2 in a row to the abysmal White Sox.

While the Blue Jays north of the border have been heating up right on time for a playoff run. With Hyun Ryu (0-1, 7.20) getting his second start of the season, I believe the always consistent starter will bring his “A” game tonight.

Gavin Williams (1-3, 3.38), the 24 year old righty, is still learning this level. While his ERA is pretty darn good for a young pitcher, tonight he will see one the most feared lineups in baseball.

Give me the Blue Jays on the run line +125. (Blue Jays -1.5 +125)

Fourth Bet: West Coast Money Line

The Giants of San Francisco have been hot the last 2 months after starting off so-so. While the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have completely fallen apart over the last seven days.

Logan Webb (9-9, 3.45) taking the mound for the Giants makes me love this bet. He is the definition of consistent. A real big leaguer if you will. While the Angels will start Patrick Sandoval (6-8, 4.11), who is on a lot of sharps fade list, including mine.

I expect Shohei Ohtani to have an outstanding game, give the Angels a few runs and make them competitive. Yet I am looking at the Giants to win this game outright.

Give me the Giants on the money line -120. (Giants ML -120)
