College Basketball Power Rankings 01/14/2025

This article is going to be exactly what it sounds like from the title. Every Tuesday I will release my top 10 college basketball teams in the country according to my power rankings.

My rankings unlike the Ap and Coaches polls are based on two completely separate things. I focus more on gambling and the tournament. For example, the best record, or run does not phase me. Things like the chemistry and rebounding will tell me more about how deep a team will go in March.

Which is what I focus this weekly power rankings on. How good are you against the spread? How deep do I think you can go in March?

College Basketball Power Rankings 01/14/2025

  1. Kentucky
  2. Auburn
  3. Duke
  4. Michigan State
  5. Iowa State
  6. Alabama
  7. Florida
  8. Michigan
  9. Kansas
  10. Utah State
  11. Marquette

This list is now littered with SEC schools having 4 of the top 10 teams on my power rankings. Kentucky even though they fell to Georgia is still the best team in the country to me. Now if they have anymore games with lack luster effort like that, it will be a problem. Every team gets a mulligan, right?

Auburn sits at number two right now, I want to see them get healthy again. Until they do, I see some losses in their near future.

Duke and Michigan State have not only been on a roll since Thanksgiving, they are doing so winning games in blow out fashion. Both of these teams right now are in my Elite 8, with a pen.

The next six schools can be interchanged how you see fit. Iowa State, Alabama, Florida, Michigan, and Kansas have all proven their elite status for this season. The next two weeks will prove to be huge for all of these schools, this six especially.

Then Utah State and Marquette, two teams I think deserve their flowers at the moment. Utah State with 1 loss, I know they’re other schools who fit that bill, however, Utah State is doing it in a tough mountwest conference and that Tennessee loss was not only huge, it is also recent.

Marquette is undefeated in Big East play, and at the top of what some call the toughest conference in basketball. For that reason, they get mentioned this week. Their next five games could be a breeze if their are not over looking their opponents, before they run into a tough three game stretch against UConn, St. John’s, and Creighton.

Check back next Tuesday for an updated CBB Power Rankings.
