The New York Jets and running back Dalvin Cook mutually agreed to part ways, his agency told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The four-time Pro Bowler will now have the chance to join a playoff team ahead of the postseason. This move was made assumingly to allow Cook to join a playoff team, while the Jets will stick with Breece Hall and Israel Abanikanda for next season.

However, it’s uncertain how much interest Cook will get on the open market amid the worst season of his career.

The veteran had just 67 carries for 214 yards and zero touchdowns after signing a one-year contract worth $7 million with $5.8 million guaranteed. Cook restructured his deal to forfeit remaining guarantees, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Breece Hall cemented himself as New York’s primary ball carrier, producing 816 rushing yards, 579 receiving yards, and five total touchdowns.

Dalvin Cook was among the NFL’s best running backs in six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings before joining New York as a free agent this past offseason. He had four straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2019-22.

With Aaron Rodgers sidelined for nearly the entire season with a torn Achilles suffered in Week 1, the Jets have sputtered to a 6-10 record and were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 16. Aaron Rodgers injury most likely had a part to play in Cook’s down season. The Jets offense was beyond subpar this year, and seemingly Breece Hall and Garret Wilson were the only ones to bring some consistency.

My personal feel is Cook could end up with the Baltimore Ravens, but we will have to see.
