Purdue and Gonzaga went back and forth in yesterday’s matchup. Gonzaga had an 9 point lead at some point, Purdue had a 14 point lead late. As close as this game was, by the time crunch time hit, Purdue had ran away with it. A total score of 73-63.

Zach Edey had a monster game, getting hacked left and right. Scoring 25 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.

Braden Smith and Lance Jones both tallied 13 points for the Boilermakers. Smith added 5 steals, 6 assist, and 4 rebounds. While Jones grabbed 4 boards, an assist and 2 steals.

Gonzaga shot the ball 18.8% from behind the arc and had three players in double digits. Nolan Hickman and Ryan Nembhard both scored 11. While Graham Ike lead the Bulldogs with 14 points and 7 rebounds.

Purdue’s Defense Stood Out

This is not the Gonzaga we are used to seeing, of course. Yet Purdue holding the Bulldogs to only 63 points is impeccable.

Gonzaga over the last decade has been one of the best scoring teams in college basketball. Scoring into the 80’s on a regular basis.

Instead of Purdue trying to run with Gonzaga and turning it into a shoot out. They allowed the game to be played at more of a Big10 pace. A pace the Boilermakers are used too.

Allowing the defense and Edey to impose their presence. Huge win for the Boilermakers, who take on Tennessee tonight in another tough, test game.

Gonzaga will play Syracuse in the early afternoon today.
