With 15 days left in the WNBA regular season, there are 7 out 8 spots in the playoffs already clinched. Then there is the one elusive spot that has 5 teams eyeing it.
With Phoenix Mercury’s win over the Atlanta Dream last night and the Chicago Sky taking their 7th straight loss, the playoff picture is almost set.
WNBA Playoff Picture
The Sky still hold onto that last spot right now, however the Dream are tied with them record wise. Both teams sit at 11-22.
Right behind them are the Washington Mystics, one game back to be exact after beating the Dallas Wings last night. Mystics started the season 0-12 yet somehow find themselves in the hunt for that last playoff spot. Sitting at 10-23 on the season they have a one game lead over the Wings.
Dallas Wings are finally healthy and have the most talent on paper out of these teams fighting for the last spot. However, in sports you have to show up and play the games, and win them.
The 9-24 Wings are still only two games back from that last spot, yet will need all three teams ahead of them to crumble.
Mathematically the LA Sparks are only 3.5 games back with 8 games to go. However tonight will be huge for their chances. Los Angeles will take on one of the hottest teams in the league since the break in Indiana.
Teams who Clinch still Fighting for Seeding
The New York Liberty is the one seed right now, with a 3 game lead over the Sun and Lynx. In fourth place are the reigning back to back champion Las Vegas Aces. A game behind them in 5th place is the veteran led Seattle Storm. Then the Fever and Mercury hold onto the 6th and 7th spot.
Team who have already clinched, still playing for seeding and still looking to secure home court at least in the first round.
The real question is, which one of the 5 teams left out will grab possession of that final spot in the playoffs. The elusive 8th seed.
