The Houston Texans have signed running back Nick Chubb after passing his physical, the team announced Monday.
Chubb will receive a one-year, $2.5-million deal that has a maximum value of $5 million, sources told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Chubb appeared in eight games with the Cleveland Browns last season (he rushed for 332 yards and three scores on 102 carries) after returning from a knee injury that included meniscus, ACL, and MCL tears . He was injured after taking a hit straight to the knee during the 2023 season.
Chubb has scored 56 total touchdowns and been named to four Pro Bowls. The 29-year-old ranks seventh among the active players with 6,843 rushing yards.
Chubb is expected to provide depth behind lead runner Joe Mixon. Houston also has running backs Dameon Pierce and 2025 fourth-round pick Woody Marks who will look for some touches as well.
Mixon led the Texans with 1,106 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground last season. He added 309 yards and another score on 36 receptions en route to the second Pro Bowl nod of his career.
Adding Nick Chubb to this backfield could be a huge addition. Not only can he give Mixon breaks, Chubb could also be a truly good, trustworthy, and proven running back for the Texans.
