This story in the NBA about Eric Lewis just got interesting.

Eric Lewis, a 19 year referee in the NBA, has announced his retirement. All of this comes during an investigation the NBA was running.

In this investigation, it alleges that Lewis operated an account under a fake account on X, formerly known as Twitter, to defend himself and other NBA referees. Due to his retirement, the NBA has stopped the investigation into the former NBA referee. The league launched its investigation shortly before the 2023 NBA Finals

This investigation began because this act is considered a violation of league rule, which is discussion officiating in an unauthorized matter. Lewis was alleged to have used a since-deleted account under the name “Blair Cuttliff.” NBA officials are under very strict rules to only talk about officiating publicly when allowed by the league.

Whether it was true or not, his decision to retire during this makes things seem so fishy. Lewis was not a part of the NBA finals this year, which he was in the previous 4 years. Lewis had officiated over 1,100 regular-season games in addition to 82 playoff contests and six NBA Finals appearances.
